Hello friends. It has certainly been awhile since accessing our blog. Much has happened since May. Due to e support of friends and family Bart we t off to Hippocrates health inst in west palm beach fl June 19th for 3 weeks. I met up with him on his final days so he wouldnt fly back alone and partook in his graduation and also met amazing people. Once home, the challenge began. Bart had to step up and get involved with his meal prep and healing. I only helped so much because I wanted him to become a truly active part of his healing. He was now retired and I am not.
In September we took part in an ALS fund raiser bike ride in Napa, Ca. One of Bart's oldest friends Tom was riding in support of Bart and Bart wanted to be involved and ride with him. We set a goal for Bart and were able to participate. Another very dear friend Kerry met up and road along. Bart, I, and Kerry road 10 miles thru the rolling hills in beautiful Napa and Tom road 100 (yes thats not a typo)miles. We set a goal to ride in 2012 and am hoping to ride 25 miles. Toms family invited us to there home after the ride and Toms sister went way out of her way to prepare vegan dishes for us. We had a beautiful leafy green salad, vegan enchiladas, corn salad, fruit tray and vegan cupcakes. Never before has anyone prepared a meal for our diet and we ate on there beautiful patio also celebrating Toms 51st birthday. A
Ll in all it was a truly memorable event. You can find a picture of us on my Facebook page.
We spent 9 days in Ca on that trip staying with Bert & Beth (Bart's bro & sister)visiting family and friends. We were also able to stay a couple nights in Scott's valley with some old friends Ron & Sandy and took a beautiful drive down to Big Sur on hwy 1. It was so wonderful to get out and walk on the beach again and just take in all the smells andd sounds of the ocean. We also went into santa Cruz and ate at Cafe Gratitude, a raw restaurant, and also shop for fresh organic fruits and vegs at the sc farmers mkt. it was a true smorgasbord of decadence for us raw vegans and we brought a couple of those treasures home with us.
I will do some more catching up tomorrow. There is so much to tell you. Bart is doing okay, struggling more with his speech and swallowing but we still believe the progression can be stopped and his body can heal. Sometimes when our bodies are in such a toxic overload as his is, you get worst before you get better.
Wishing you health, happiness peace and joy
